Wisconsin Guild of Midwives Scholarship Fund
Advancing midwifery opportunities for future and current Licensed Midwives in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Guild of Midwives (WGOM) offers scholarships to support midwives and student midwives in their education and professional development. Our goal is to increase access to midwifery care across Wisconsin, with an emphasis on supporting diverse providers and communities with limited access to care.
Award Information
- The scholarship award is $500 and is offered once per calendar year (May-May).
- The number of awards available will be a minimum of 4 per cycle.
- If funds remain after a cycle, they may be rolled over into the following year, increasing the number of available awards.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- be a current member of the Wisconsin Guild of Midwives
- be a student midwife or a practicing midwife pursuing continuing education or professional development
- complete the application in full through the form below
How to Apply
All application materials must be submitted through the application form below. You will be asked to provide:
- basic contact information
- educational or professional background
- a short written response
- two letters of reference
Written Response
Please respond to the following within your application in 1-3 short paragraphs (150-300 words). We are not looking for polished responses – just thoughtful and honest ones.
- How will you use these funds?
- What are your goals in your midwifery education or practice?
- What impact will this funding have on your community or the populations you serve?
Letters of Reference
Please provide two letters of reference. Both letters should speak to:
- your character
- your commitment to midwifery
- your readiness for the opportunity you are seeking funding for
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds must be used for:
- tuition or program fees
- certification or exam fees
- continuing education or conferences
- required books or learning materials
Fund may not be used for equipment or clinical supplies.
How Applications Are Reviewed
Applications are reviewed using a weighted and equitable scoring process, which considers:
- alignment with scholarship priorities
- intended impact on communities served
- clarity and completeness of the application
Applicants may qualify in more than one priority category. These categories are cumulative, not exclusive.
Priority Considerations
Priority may be given to applicants who:
- identify as a Person of Color
- service underserved communities (including rural, Plainsclothes, low-income, un- or underinsured, immigrant/refugee, or LGBTQIA+ populations)
- are a part of or serve culturally distinct communities
“Plainclothes communities” refers to cultural or religious groups (such as Amish or Mennonite communities) with distinct traditions and potential barriers to accessing mainstream healthcare
Timeline
- Application deadline: Second Friday of May
- Award notification: Approximately 4 weeks after the deadline
- Distribution: No later than mid-July

What can the scholarship funds be used for?

Each award is $500 and a minimum of 4 will be awarded per cycle.
When will I hear back about my application? When can I expect my disbursement?
Applicants will be notified within approximately 4 weeks after the application deadline. The disbursement will be follow by no later than mid-July.
Do I need to be a member of the Wisconsin Guild of Midwives to apply?

What should I include in my written response?
We are looking for clear and honest responses that explain how you plan to use the funds, your goals in midwifery, and the impact this support with have on your work or community.
Who should I ask for my letters of reference?
Choose individuals who can speak to your character, your commitment to midwifery, and your readiness for the opportunity you are seeking funding for.
Are demographic questions required?
No. Demographic questions are optional and are used only to support equitable distribution of scholarship funds. Your responses are confidential and will not impact eligibility.
