- Midwest Maternal Child Institute (MMCI) offers an Associate Degree and a One-Year Diploma that prepares students to become Maternal Child Health Specialists. These programs, offered in Milwaukee, WI are for those seeking advanced knowledge in labor support, postpartum support, lactation education, and maternal child case management. Graduates of the Maternal Child Health Specialist Programs will be qualified to work as: Birth Assistants, Professional Doulas with high level skills, Breastfeeding & Lactation Counselors and Maternal Child Case Managers. Also, those wishing to enhance their careers in Public Health, Social Services, Birth Justice and Women’s/Gender Studies will gain a greater understanding of maternal child health. MMCI’s programs are approved by the Wisconsin Education Accreditation Board.
- Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) lists midwifery schools and programs accredited by MEAC and prepares midwives for national certification as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) MEAC creates standards and criteria for the education of midwives. The purpose of MEAC is to establish standards for the education of competent midwives, and to provide a process for self-evaluation and peer evaluation for diverse educational programs. MEAC is a non-profit organization approved by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
- North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) provides and maintains an evaluative process for multiple routes of midwifery education and training. It develops and administers a standardized examination system leading to the credential “Certified Professional Midwife” (CPM). The organization also maintains a registry of those individuals who have received certification and/or passed the examination and manages the process of re-certification.
- Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (SWTC) located in Fennimore, Wisconsin offers a two year associate degree program for students. The program trains professional midwives who will qualify for certification and licensure in Wisconsin. SWTC also offers a bridge program for CPMs seeking an associate degree in Applied Science, allowing CPMs to gain advanced standing for clinical and didactic courses. SWTC’s program is MEAC accredited.
